Women Cell, Bhawanipur Anchalik College (BAC)
Women's empowerment and gender equality are the most important requirements for the upliftment and progress of our nation. To make Bhawanipur Anchalik College a strong kernel of gender sensitization, the Women Cell, Bhawanipur Anchalik College, was formed in 2013 with Dr. Mukunda Sarma, the then Principal, Bhawanipur Anchalik College, as Chief Patron, Haimayanti Talukdar, Assistant Professor, Department of Assamese, as President, and Dr. Niva Choudhury, Associate Professor, Department of Philosophy, as General Secretary. The cell functions as per the following mission, vision, and objectives:
Mission:
1. To encourage female students to be self-reliant and economically independent.
2. Spreading awareness among the students about the social, legal and constitutional rights of women in order to prevent the exploitation based on gender.
3. To sensitise the women students of college & society about nutrition, health, hygiene.
4. Making females cognizant about different kinds of violence: sexual, physical and mental and to further equip them with the knowledge and strength to fight against them.
5. Creating awareness about the need of gender equality.
6. Eliminating deep rooted beliefs of gender bias and discrimination.
Vision:
1. Molding and enlightening the young minds and pave their way to grow into balanced and better human beings.
2. To empower women in all spheres of life enabling them to become agents of social and economic change and inculcating ethical values for the betterment of self, family and society.
The Women Cell currently comprises the following members:

4. To enhance self-esteem and self-confidence among women students and staff.
5. To increase awareness of women-related social issues, health, employment, and gender-related matters.

List of Activities of the Women Cell: (2016 Onwards)
8th March 2016: Celebration of International Women’s Day at Bhawanipur Anchalik College by organising an awareness rally against violence towards women.
8th March 2017: In connection with International Women’s Day, an extempore speech programme was organised among the students of Bhawanipur Anchalik College.
27th November 2017: An Educational Awareness Camp was organised in collaboration with the Extension Education Cell and Bharat Scout and Guide, Bhawanipur Anchalik College at Nakuchi High School.
8th March, 2018: In connection with International Women’s Day, a lecture session on “Health and Personal Hygiene of Women” was organised at Bhawanipur Anchalik College in collaboration with IQAC, Bhawanipur Anchalik College, Asian Mission Institute, and BHB College, Sarupeta. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Jayanta Talukdar, MBBS, MD, who works as a professor at NEIAH, Shillong.
22nd February, 2019: An awareness programme on “menstrual hygiene” in collaboration with the Department of Political Science at Bhawanipur Anchalik College was organised at Bhawanipur Girls’ High School.
8th March, 2019: In connection with International Women’s Day, a lecture programme was organised on women’s mental health at Bhawanipur Anchalik College.
8th March 2021: In connection with International Women’s Day, an awareness camp on health and hygiene was organised at the ADP Hazrat Osman Gani (R) model academy in Anandapur, Barpeta.
20th March 2021: A Women Health Awareness Programme on Gynaecology and Pain Management was organised at Conference Hall, Bhawanipur Anchalik College, in collaboration with Sarathi Hospital, Nalbari.
8th March 2022: In connection with International Women’s Day, a meeting and counselling programme was organised at Tapoban, the boarding school for specially- abled children.
17th February 2023: A Sanitary Napkin Distribution Drive was organised among the female students of Milan High School, Tapa, Bhawanipur.
8th March 2023: In connection with the International Women’s Day celebration, a lecture programme on the theme “DigitAll: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality” was organised in the Seminar Hall, Bhawanipur Anchalik College.
31st March 2023: A “Free Health Checkup Camp” was organised under the banner of the Women Cell, Alumni Association, and Extension Education Cell, Bhawanipur Anchalik College, with the assistance of the doctors and healthcare workers from GNRC Hospital, Guwahati, in Rooms 6 and 7 of Bhawanipur Anchalik College. Dr. Jashangir Alom and Dr. Rubi Beguman from GNRC Hospital provided medical checkups, blood sugar, blood pressure, and ECG tests, along with free prescribed medicines to the patients.
2nd June, 2023: Installation of Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine at Girls Common Room and Installation of Sanitary Napkin Disposing/Burning Machine at Girls A bathroom and demonstration of the same were organised by the women's cell at Bhawanipur Anchalik College on June 2, 2023, with the help of an expert.
19th, 20th , and 21st June, 2021: A “three-day-long yoga workshop” was organised by the Women Cell, Bhawanipur Anchalik College, on June 19th, 20th, and 21st, 2021, in accordance with the celebration of International Yoga Day on June 21st. The workshop was organised in the indoor stadium of the college at 2:00 PM. The programme was led by three yoga experts, namely Champak Bayan, Ratul Deka, and Dharitri Das Bayan.
23rd June, 2023: A “Special Class for Children of Flood Relief Camp” was organised by Women Cell, Bhawanipur Anchalik College, in collaboration with CDPO, Bhawanipur Block, on 23rd June, 2023.
8th March, 2024: A Movie Screening Program (Nil Battey Sannata) was organised by the Women Cell on International Women’s Day 2024 in the Seminar Hall of the college.
